This day loops through the heart of the Muskoka Lakes, where wooden boats still queue at the locks and Bala's marshes turn crimson at harvest. Autumn is the showpiece season, but it works from late spring onward.
- MorningStart in Port Carling. Watch boats lock through between Lake Muskoka and Lake Rosseau, then browse the village shops along the river.
- MiddayDrive the scenic roads south to Bala. See where Lake Muskoka spills into the Moon River and stop for lunch in the village.
- AfternoonVisit Muskoka Lakes Farm & Winery for a marsh tour and a tasting of cranberry and fruit wines. Check the farm's calendar for harvest tours.
- Late afternoonWalk the loop trail at Hardy Lake Provincial Park, a quiet non-operating park with lakeshore and rock barrens.
- EveningOn a clear night, stay for the stars at the Torrance Barrens Dark-Sky Preserve, a few minutes away.
