Things to Do in Bracebridge, Ontario: A Year-Round Town Guide

Waterfalls in town, Woodchester, Manitoba Street, breweries and Santa's Village: what's open in Bracebridge now and what's seasonal.

By MuskokaOntario.com Editors5 min read

Bracebridge sits where the Muskoka River drops through the middle of town, and that one fact shapes most visits. You can see a waterfall from the main bridge, walk to two more within a few minutes' drive, and still be back on Manitoba Street for lunch. This guide covers what is open year-round, what is seasonal, and what to expect if you are visiting in November.

Start at the falls in town

Bracebridge Falls runs under the Silver Bridge in the heart of downtown. Muskoka Tourism calls it the town's trademark sight and notes that the falls and bridge are lit up at night. The Bracebridge Bay Trail starts nearby at 39 Wharf Road and has interpretive plaques along the way.

The Town's Heritage Walking Trail adds depth to that walk. It has 12 signs spread through the downtown and waterfront on both sides of the river, and at Woodchester. According to the Town, the trail was first installed in 1981 and the signs were redesigned in 2025 as a Bracebridge 150 legacy project. One stop covers the Bracebridge Falls Generating Station, a hydro-electric powerhouse built in 1901 as demand for electric light outgrew the town's earlier pumping station.

Two more waterfalls nearby

Muskoka Tourism points out that Bracebridge has three waterfalls within about a five-minute drive of downtown:

  • High Falls, off the Cedar Lane exit of Highway 11. Look for Little High Falls and the footbridge nearby.
  • Wilson's Falls, just north of downtown at 461 Wilsons Falls Road, reached by a 3.6 km hiking trail with a picnic area along the way.

All three are worth seeing in late fall, when the leaves are down and the views open up. Rocks near moving water get slick and icy at this time of year, so stay back from the edges and obey posted signs. For more falls across the district, see our Muskoka waterfalls guide.

Woodchester and the Storybook Trail

Woodchester, at 15 King Street, is the octagonal house that Henry James Bird built in 1882. The Town says the Bird family lived there for nearly 100 years, and the house sits on 10 acres overlooking the Muskoka River, Bracebridge Falls and the Silver Bridge. The Town has reopened the house to the public. To arrange a visit, contact the Town's Economic Development staff (the contact is on the Town's Woodchester page).

You don't need to book to walk the grounds. The Storybook Trail winds through the parkland next to the house and ends at an observation deck shaped like an octagon, with a view over the river toward downtown.

Downtown Manitoba Street

Manitoba Street is the main shopping and dining street, and it is open all year. A few places to start, all listed in our directory:

  • Cedar Canoe Books at 22 Manitoba Street, an independent bookshop.
  • Muskoka Arts & Crafts, whose downtown gallery is at 63 Manitoba Street and runs rotating exhibitions.
  • The Old Station at 88 Manitoba Street, which has been serving Bracebridge since 1985.
  • The Griffin Pub, tucked away at 9 Chancery Lane, which posts live music and events on its own calendar.
  • Big River Baking Company, which lists its hours as Tuesday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday.

The Bracebridge Farmers' Market is a summer-and-fall affair. It runs Saturdays at Memorial Park on Manitoba Street, and its 2026 season is over. The market has posted dates of June 5 to October 9, 2027, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Breweries

Bracebridge has two brewery stops worth planning around.

Muskoka Brewery runs its taproom at 1964 Muskoka Beach Road, just off Highway 118. The brewery lists taproom hours as Sunday to Thursday noon to 6 p.m. and Friday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. You don't need a reservation for a regular visit. Guided tours run at select times, so call ahead if you want one.

Bracebridge Barrelhouse, run by Lake of Bays Brewing Co. at 295 Wellington Street, is where the brewery ages its barrel-aged beers in oak foeders. It also serves food. Posted hours are Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with brunch on weekends and holiday Mondays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Santa's Village: closed for summer, open some winter evenings

Santa's Village is a family theme park at 1624 Golden Beach Road, on a bend of the Muskoka River. The park describes itself as 60 acres with more than 30 rides and attractions, and it added a family roller coaster called Yeti Trek for the 2026 season.

The summer park is closed now. For November and December 2026, the park's online calendar shows Muskoka Christmas evenings from 2 to 7 p.m. on these dates:

  • November 21–22 and 28–29
  • December 5–6 and 12–13
  • December 19–23

The calendar shows the park closed in January 2027. The park has not yet posted dates for the 2027 summer season. Check the official calendar before you drive out, because hours can change.

  • Visit by arrangement: Woodchester's interior.
  • Seasonal: the Farmers' Market (back June 5, 2027) and the Santa's Village summer park (2027 dates not yet posted). Muskoka Christmas evenings at Santa's Village start November 21.
