Bigwin Island
The wooded island in Lake of Bays that once held one of Muskoka's grandest resorts, seen best from the water or a sunset cruise.
Bigwin Island rises out of Lake of Bays and is the lake's best-known landmark. In the steamship era it was the site of a vast resort that drew guests from across the continent; today it holds an island golf course and private cottages, and the old resort story remains part of the lake's character. Most visitors see it from a boat, a canoe or a shoreline road at sunset, when the island turns dark against the water.
