Bala
The village at the falls where Lake Muskoka empties into the Moon River, known for cranberries and a long-running music hall.
Bala sits at the neck of Lake Muskoka, above the falls where the lake narrows into the Moon River. Cranberry growing made the village famous, and the marsh tours south of town still draw visitors in autumn when the bogs turn red. In summer the village fills for concerts at its historic dance hall beside the water, and the bakery and ice-cream stops on the main street are part of the ritual. A short walk takes in the falls, the river and the old station area.
