Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site
The birthplace of Norman Bethune, kept as a national historic site a few minutes from Gravenhurst's main street.
Norman Bethune is remembered in Canada and China alike as a surgeon and medical innovator, and the manse where he was born in 1890 still stands in Gravenhurst. Parks Canada runs it as a national historic site, with restored rooms, exhibits on his work in Spain and China, and a garden. Visits are seasonal and sometimes by guided tour only, so it is worth checking the site's own opening dates and hours before you plan a stop around it.
